Description

We have invited some youth activists in NUS to share their perspectives and suggestions on public transport for the opening 30 minutes. After that, we will open it to the floor for participants to comment on those ideas or put forward their own. At the end of this session, we hope youths will come together to synthesise innovative ideas for our public transport system and feel empowered that their opinions matter in the grand scheme of thing. We also hope that youths will be aware that youth representatives are aware of national issues and actively seek to hear them out.

Background of issue

The Transport Forum is meant to capitalise on public interest in the recent spate of problems that the public transport system has been facing. This forum seeks to invite young Singaporeans to come forward with ideas for an efficient and world class transport system that can bring our people to wherever they want to go quickly. Indeed, transporting a large population of 5 million Singaporeans around the island is a monumental task not to be under-estimated. We are also looking beyond buses and trains, to include also how congestion management and work times are being staggered. Can Singapore’s world-class airport and seaport be aspirations that our land transport sector can follow?
